Theatre Admin Apprentice @ Breaking Barriers Theatre Classes

Location: 280 Overdown Road, Tilehurst, Reading, RG31 6PP & other locations including Caversham, Mortimer, Tadley & Thatcham.

WHO are Breaking Barriers Theatre?

Established in 2006 by sisters Sarah and Natalie Maskell, Breaking Barriers Theatre offer a variety of classes to all age groups, based within many schools around Berkshire and Hampshire. Welcoming all levels of ability, the emphasis is focused on confidence building, learning new skills and fun!

With classes including Street Dance, Ballet and Drama, Breaking Barriers also offer annual shows, exams and performance opportunities as well as theatre trips and holiday workshops.

WHAT will I get from working with Breaking Barriers Theatre?

  • EARN: £8.00 per hour, 30+ hours per week
  • EXPERIENCE- your hours: Monday to Thursday 11am to 6pm, Friday- flexible hours & work from home!
  • QUALIFICATION: Business Admin Level 3 takes approximately 18 months.

WHAT will my DAY look like?

You will be working with a team of 12 staff and providing vital admin support due to the ongoing growth and success of the business. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Lesson planning & learning the curriculum.
  • Managing reception & registers.
  • Social media posting for Breaking Barriers & Tumble Tots.
  • Designing adverts
  • Co-ordinating & organising Safeguarding courses/ First aid etc.
  • Music editing & slide shows
  • Answering emails
  • Going into schools & teaching for 1 hour after school singing, dance or drama depending on your skills
  • Set up /clear down with tumble tots’ staff (2/3 other staff members)
  • Helping with show weekend twice a year
  • Sorting out costumes for shows
  • Working with the children for tumble tots’ mother/child sessions as well as the independent learners aged 3/4 years old
  • Leading & teaching a session for tumble tots (full training will be given, this takes a while)
  • Joining in & learning from the other teachers
  • Joining in on holiday workshop courses in the holidays – leading break times and health & safety of children (working with a team of teachers)
  • Answering parents’ questions
  • Minimum of 6 hours per week spent on apprenticeship work and training.

HOW does the Apprenticeship work?

Working towards your Business Admin Level 3 Qualification, you’ll attend monthly 1-2-1 meetings (online via teams every month – NO classroom OR college!) with your tutor and learn about the modules. You will be given a minimum of 3 hours per week to complete any apprenticeship work (assignments, research, and projects) and will receive at least another 3 hours of training from your employer. All apprenticeship work and training is completed in the workplace, during working hours.

WHAT skills/qualifications do I NEED?

  • Minimum GRADE 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths & English
  • UK Residency – must have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
  • Driving license and own transport is required as you will need to travel to different venues.
  • Good communication & team working.
  • Confident, adaptable & flexible.
  • Self-motivated, initiative & independence.
  • Organisation, time management & punctuality.
  • Keen interest in performing arts!
